Claire and Simon – The Bildeston Crown.

At the end of August an e-mail dropped into my inbox. ‘We know it’s very short notice, but we’re hoping you’re available to photograph our wedding on the 3rd September..’
That was my introduction to Claire and Simon and their family wedding at The Bildeston Crown and Stowmarket registry office. As it turned out, I was free as I’d booked off the 3rd to recuperate after a hectic August – but the promise of an intimate wedding, a vintage racing Bentley and a great couple combined with the good weather we were having, made it too good to pass up.

My wife also was dead jealous as she has been angling for us to visit The Bildeston Crown for some time now to sample their, by all accounts, amazing food. So it was like a little recce there to check them out..

The weather gods were kind again and the 3rd dawned bright and wonderful. Claire had phoned the evening before, just to let me know that she had arranged a surprise for Simon. He is a big vintage Bentley fan, and Claire had secretly arranged for one to take them to the registry office in Stowmarket. Quite often I’m traveling all over the countryside driving to weddings, so it was nice to be in my local area again. Elmswell is only about 15 minutes from Bildeston and it’s a lovely leafy drive.

But enough about my driving through sun dappled country lanes – this isn’t Top Gear after all – it’s a wedding photography blog!

Both Claire and Simon wanted a wedding photographer whose photographs spoke to them. It was important that they didn’t just end up with a collection of pretty photographs, but a visual story of their wedding. I love working with couples who share my approach to photography – just watching the day unfolding and photographing those tender little moments that all come together to create an emotional narrative.

The wedding itself was a lovely intimate affair at the Stowmarket Registry office and then we were back to The Bildeston Crown for the reception.

Having never been in The Bildeston Crown before I was in for a treat.

Once everyone had arrived back from the registry office, canapes were served. If you look closely at a few photographs you’ll spot the moment when one of Simons’ sons tasted his first oyster! Always a memorable occasion..
The Bildeston Crown is well known locally for it’s excellent food, and I have to say that it looked fantastic – certainly by the time the speeches came around, empty plates abounded. Not only did we have a speech from the best man, but Claire’s brother in Australia sang her a song via Skype. Hows that for cool?

I think it’s safe to say that Claire and Simon thoroughly enjoyed their wedding at The Bildeston Crown. I know I enjoyed being their wedding photographer there and I hope to be back at The Bildeston Crown soon..
