Have I had clients not wanting wedding photographs published? Way back when in the predigital age, the idea that, with a few clicks, your wedding photographs could be spread around the world would have seemed absurd. It seems every where you look you’re being constantly bombarded by images. A plate of food? Sure, let’s photograph that and stick it on Instagram. A pet doing something cute? Quick, get a phone and upload it to Facebook. An unending flood of images in a world where every moment seems to be Memorexed and shared. Sometimes it seems like this is only thing that wedding photographers do – spread their clients photographs far and wide across the internet. But what about clients not… Read More →
Wedding photos with a difference. Do you ever get the feeling that all you see are wedding pictures that look all the same? Why doesn’t anyone create wedding photos with a difference? Way back in the mists of time, well, the late 70′s anyway, I used to concoct fantastical stories in my head. I’d sit there are imagine all sorts of stories and adventures for my Lego spacemen. My Kenner Star Wars toys were routinely lost in the garden as Luke and Han went off on another adventure. Stories and legend were everywhere. The world was infinitely fascinating. So what has all this got to do with wedding photos with a difference? How does the fact that Luke and Han… Read More →
Just outside of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is The West Wing Ickworth. The West Wing Ickworth weddings are set against the stunning backdrop of The Rotunda and the sumptuous gardens. If you’re planning on having your wedding at The West Wing and you’re still looking for a photographer, why not have a little look at one of the weddings I photographed there last year. The couples who choose me as their wedding photographer appreciate the way my work has a genuine feel to it. Aside from a few minutes of formal portraits, I work in a totally reactionary way to the events at your wedding. No dictating poses, no contriving moments, no ushering of guests into neat little groups…. Read More →
Contemporary wedding photographer Hertfordshire. Picture the scene. 1974, it’s Christmas, well just after actually, the 27th. In the charming surrounds of Hertford County Hospital I decided to make my entrance into the world. Since that moment, I’ve lived all over the world. For the last fifteen years I’ve been lucky to be a contemporary wedding photographer. That’s allowed me to travel and work at the same time. Every wedding is different and special. Couples like yourself choose me as their contemporary wedding photographer as they recognize the genuine moments and honesty that my wedding photography captures. If you’re looking for a contemporary wedding photographer in Hertfordshire, or are getting married in Herts, then have a look at my portfolio. It’s… Read More →
Does anyone actually have any idea what the phrase ‘Contemporary Wedding Photographer’ means? It’s one of those phrases that gets bandied about willy nilly in the wedding photography world. Terms like ‘documentary wedding photography’, ‘vintage/retro’ or the current buzz phrase to rule them all, ‘relaxed and informal’. These phrases are just a way of shoehorning people into convenient boxes. This isn’t the first time I’ve sat down and blogged about labels like contemporary wedding photographer in the business. Probably because like everyone else, I occasionally feel the need to slap a few names on the type of photography I produce. It’s not enough to just produce a great photograph or an amazing narrative with images, it also needs to have… Read More →
Wedding Photographer Norfolk. That’s what it says on the tin – wedding photographer Norfolk. It’s funny, but no one really talks or writes like that, and yet, that’s how people use Google. Go figure. Anyway, no doubt by now you’ve been engaged for a little while and you’re ready to start looking for a wedding photographer. It’s quite handy that you’ve found my website as that’s what I do! I’m a wedding photographer – talk about serendipity.. If you’re like most people planning a wedding, I’m sure by now you’ve had everyone and their dog give you their ‘advice’ and tell you how you need to do things. Doesn’t that get tiresome? I know when my wife and I were… Read More →
Leah and Ben’s wedding at Highcliffe Castle. Last month I jumped in the car and headed down to the tropical south of England for a delightful seaside wedding. I’d met Leah and Ben in London a few weeks before to go over the plans for their wedding day. It was a gloriously sunny day and boded well for the wedding itself. Typically the great British summer decided that it would throw a spanner in the works. So when Chris and I arrived on the Friday to have a little site visit we were greeted by driving horizontal rain and a gale. Lovely. As is so often the way, the Saturday dawned lovely and bright, a total contrast from the day… Read More →
Yay! Jake and Lindsay have now seen the photographs from their wedding so I’m free to share them with you fine people… In April I was fortunate enough to be flown to South Africa to photograph Jake and Lyndsay’s wedding at De Oude kraal which is a farmstead in the middle of the veld outside of Bloemfontein. They had contacted me last year and asked that, seeing as they loved my photography so much, would I like to indulge in a little bit of South African destination wedding photography? Oh hell yes! Aside from making a change from the, quite frankly, dreary weather we’ve been having here in the UK, it was great to be back in South Africa and… Read More →
This is a little bit of news I’ve been sitting on for about a month now. My photographer friends know I’ve been accepted to be a member of the WPJA, but now’s the time to tell the world at large. Yay! In their own words the WPJA is: “..a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. What sets our members apart in the industry is their candid, documentary approach – a distinctly artistic vision toward wedding photography. The Wedding Photojournalist Association puts the world’s best wedding photography at your fingertips. We offer a new perspective on wedding photography – quietly capturing the real moments as they happen for the bride and groom. It is our… Read More →
A photographer friend of mine just made a comment on Facebook that I think deserves talking about. He’d just booked a wedding of a couple who had actually already provisionally held a date with another photographer. They had contacted this other photographer and asked her to hold the date after seeing a styled shoot on one of the popular wedding blogs that abound. When they finally met up with the styled shoot photographer to pay the booking fee, they asked to see some more of her work, they were amazed to hear that this photographer had only actually photographed three weddings. She didn’t have any sample albums to show, and all three of the weddings had only taken a disc,… Read More →
